A few problems in one topic: access denied, image pop-up, forum icons and timestamps

Hi all,

Sorry to say I have a few problems with Simple Press that I hope you'll be able to help me resolve.

  1. Seemingly at random, despite having the correct permissions, when a user clicks a link from the index page (i.e. into one of the forums), they receive an "Access Denied" error. This has happened to me once (administrator-level user) and my colleage more than once (also administrator-level).
  2. As per screenshot, the image pop-up doesn't appear to work for a few images, yet it does for others!
  3. In the back-end, all of my forums have a small fish icon. In the front-end, a few of the forum icons appear to have reverted to the default icon.
  4. Some of the timestamps on posts are particularly strange, such as: Lepidocephalichthys goalparensis -3574 seconds ago
I was using the W3 Total Cache plugin but the problems remain despite turning all caching off > deactivating > uninstalling entirely.

I think perhaps the first thing to sort out is the use of wp-cache. Having just looked at your site and loaded a few forum pages at random they do appear to be still being loaded from the cache. I am no expert on this but I do know that it is necessary to exclude the forum page from ALL of the wp-cache elements and options.

While I am not saying that resolving this will resolve all the above, it is one of those things that gets in the way - like clothing when trying to diagnose a skin rash.

1 - Not a known problem but I think this is one area where we need to exclude wp-cache before we can progress further. The randomness worries me however as that always makes things harder.

2 - Can we assume it is always the same images that do not show up? Not knowing how these were processed and stored when imported have you actually checked that they do exist where expected? We do keep separate main image and thumbnails so is it possible the thumbnail was created but the main image is actually missing? Or undisplayable?

3 - I didn't see this when I just looked. Can you point me to a specific one?

4 - Probably worth your while having a quick rad of this article: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....conds-ago/ which may help explain and correct this one.

See if you can expunge the wp-cache influence and then we can take another look at things.

OK, totally removed the cache which appears to have resolved #3. I've also resolved #4.

I'll leave #2 for now, as when I re-uploaded the image it worked. If I notice it in the future I'll post again (might've been caching probs).

Still having major issues with #1 though. Can you access this URL?

i can load that topic from the UI but not from that link. Where did it come from? It is trying to load page 1749 and the topic in question only has 2 pages?

It's from the recently updated/new post drop-down box.

Some of them appear to work, but some of them have a random page-#, i.e. that one above.

Well - a first to me. Sounds like it might be a data issue. Can you try this. Go to the forum admin > Toolbox > Housekeeping > Rebuild Indexes. Choose the forum that this topic is in and rebuild the indexing. Can take a little while although I don't recall any of your forums being huge.

Re-load the forum pages and see if the problem remains.

Ahah, seems to have done the trick. Should I rebuild all of the indexes then?

I would. Judging by the high number I think perhaps the conversion didn't quiite know what the 'post_index' field was for an almost certainly filed it with the post_id instead. In fact is simply the sequential post psotion within a topic. Rebuilding will put them all right.
