Way, way down the dump of values you will find an array called 'auths-map'. Can you tell me what is displayed at index position 18 please?
Then below the auths-map list there is an 'auths' section for each individual permission. perhaops you cou;d also tell me what it shows for position 18.
FYI, the user does show as a Moderator under [forum_moderators] => Array
Under [auths] => Array
[18] = [auth_id] => 18
[auth_name] => delete_any_post
[auth_desc] => Can delete any post
[active] => 1
[ignored] => 0
[enabling] => 0
[admin_negate] => 0
[auth_cat] => 5
[warning] =>
Under [auths_map] => Array position 18 is [delete_any_post] => 18
not sure where andy was going with his question, so will leave that to him... I do agree though that the notice is unlikely unrelated... those seem to come from ajax type requests where things may not be set up (though we cannot replicate on call)...
for the moderator user in question, if you go to their profile (you as admin can do this), and go to profile - permissions and look at the forum in question, what do you see?

I have to say I am somewhat stumped on this one. But first...:
@mr-papa - I was asking about the auth 18 index value simply because it repeatedly appears in the SP error log as an undefined offset. No - I do not think this is responsible for the issue with the moderator user but it does seem odd to find that it is, actually, defined.
OK - can we just recap here to make sure I have everything correct.
You have one user (only) who happens to be a moderator who is unable to reply to any posts. Upon submitting a post reply from the editor, it starts to save and then stops with an 'Access denied – you do not have permission' message and, I assume, a blank screen. This result can be verified on a different PC thus suggesting it is not a local PC or browser issue.
Is that accurate?
Perhaps another data dump is required here so I can take a long look at what is getting passed. Using the Data Inspector again, could you turn on the control data for 'spThisUser' and then log in AS the moderator user with the problem. It is their data we need to look at.
Now - you are not going to want to display this in the public forums here. It is also somewhat lengthy so what I would really prefer if possible is if you could copy and paste the content to a text file and then email it to me as an attachment. I will send you a PM with an email address to use if that is OK.
Maybe I can spot something specific. I can at least check the data against all the access denied points.

Absolutely!

There was no data displayed when the page rendered (logged in as person in question in a separate browser).
I'll reply to your PM with login credentials for both admin and user.
No - I was being stupid. It only displays to the person who actually turned the inspector on. And I suppose your moderator won't have permission to do that. I may use the login credentials although not sure what I would be hoping to find...
Let me have another think...

Ok - i have spent the last half an hour or more looking through all of the data and settings and I have to admit I can find nothing wrong. I do not like the number of error log entries you get which suggests some missing settings or something somewhere but that is not an issue as far as your moderator is concerned.
I need to talk this through here and also trawl through the code and compile a list of all the conditions for which that denied message may be triggered and perhaps see if we can come at the problem from that end of the stick...

sounds to me like the next step is to see if there is a staging or test server available that has the same issue where we can get some ftp credentials and add some debug code... additionally, we probably need the credentials for this admin so we can do a bunch of data dump and see where things are failing... think at this point we need to walk through the code real time and see what is going on...
