That's a bit of a concern. All slugs (automatic or manual) are checked via the standard WordPress core filters which should take care of any anomalies. So was this edit made using the forum tools on the front end? Can you tell me what punctuation was left in it?
As for editing it then yes - you can do this directly in the database. The table is 'wp_sftopics' and the column is literally 'topic_slug'. Your table prefix may not be 'wp_' of course. Well - hopefully it is not!
You will need ti find the record of course.
You say you can not view the topic itself but does it show in the forum view - the list of topics? If so then you can use the forum tools and select the 'properties' menu option which will disclose the topic ID. But then I guess if it shows up there you could also edit the topic slug there so it is probably missing there as well.
Well - I hope you manage to make the edit OK. Please do let us know.

Thanks for your reply! We thought the same thing regarding Wordpress filters, but they didn't work in this case. The edit was made using forum tools on the front end. It turned into a mess thanks to an accidental paste of the TITLE of the post.
We couldn't access it via the database, but you solved it for us anyway. 🙂 We'd been trying to access it via the profile of the person who posted it (since it was from months ago), and there are no forum tools on that page. However, when you mentioned the forum tools, we went through the archive forum instead and found it. There, we were able to change it, and it works again just fine. Huzzah!
Thanks so much for the tip!
