Support Forum
There are about 15K+ members on a forum I am managing. Any time I try to add members to a group, the program thinks and thinks, I can't tell if it's doing something or in an endless loop. Specifically working on moderators now, but it seems to happen with other groups too.
In the past a similar sort of thing happens when I add forums.
Basically, it seems like things that involve ajax either take a really long time.
I can deal with a long time, but recently when I try to add members, it goes into an endless loop and/or times out.
Has anyone else brought this up?
I am working with 5.1.3 freshly upgraded to day but it was also happening in the earler 5.1 versions.
Buddypress is another major plugin installed. I tried w/ bp disabled and similar results.
Based on other posts, I tried removing the moderators group and re-adding. I was able to do this, though it seemed to time out when I tried.
Now I can't add a member to the group because of the time out issue. In phpmyadmin, it says a user is a moderator (1) ... but she doesn't show when I list members in the new moderator group. (she was a moderator in the old/deleted moderator group.)
No, not really... we did have one other user a while back with similar issue... but its certainly not a general problem...
We have one user with about a million users and it fires right up for him... and if you look at the user display, it only shows 100 at a time anyway - so the real user count is mostly irrelevant...
not sure I follow your last part.... you can have multiple usergroups that are flagged as a moderator group (see the flag when you edit the user group)... so having the moderator column in sfmembers set to 1, just means they are a member in at least one user group that is a moderator user group...

(Actually, technically I did not disable simplepress first on the live site. However, on the upgrade site simple press forced me to disable simple press before being able to go through with the upgrade process because sp-control.php was not found. I disabled, and then clicked on upgrade and activate (in whatever sequence they showed up).)
Basically, I am using just wp 3.4.1 with the 2011 theme and simple-press are running, buddypress is disabled.

CONSOLE
When i click on the button in the forum admin user group form my browser console shows this link:
/index.php?sp_ahah=usergroups-loader&sfnonce=c90e37bc6f&loadform=addmembers&id=3&rnd=1344924089046 [HTTP/1.1 200 OK]
Unlike other buttons like list users, i get no time showing the process is completed, e.g.

/index.php?sp_ahah=usergroups-loader&sfnonce=c90e37bc6f&loadform=delmembers&id=3&rnd=1344924799410 [HTTP/1.1 200 OK 1053ms]
On one group, I can click on the delete button and get a delete dialog and can delete a user from the group.
==========
if I try
/wp-admin/admin.php?page=simple-press/admin/panel-forums/spa-forums.php#
from curl
I there is no output nor error.
I have called to see if mod security is blocking something, The hosting company says they don't see any mod sec errors, and I don't see any in the error log either.
Adding a user to a group works on the live 4.4.5 site.
This is cpanel on centos, dedicated server.
Thanks in advance for any ideas people might have.
This is where I am going to start to get into areas I am pretty dumb about very quickly. Around about now actually!
Searching the web for 'ap_content_length_filter' and 'apr_bucket_read()' throws up huge quantities of hits most of which are complaining about unexpected and unexplained timeout errors - usually on their Centos server.
I have to be away for a few hours here but will continue to search when I get back but meanwhile it is probably worth your while doing the same. I am seeing a lot of complaints about this but not, so far, that many solutions being offered...
