What is the ideal size of a custom icon? I tried uploading different sizes, and I think I would like an icon a little larger than whatever the default size is. However, the text of the forum name next to the icon does not shift over, the icon ends up rubbing right against it or even stepping over it depending on the icon size.

So I have 2 questions:

What is the exact pixel dimensions of the default icons?

How can I have everything shift over automatically if I use a slightly larger icon?

The default ones supplied are 32px x 32px.
if you go bigger - or smaller - than you may need to adjust the column width of the icon section to suit. This is done in the appropriate template file You will see the column sections and the default widths given to each column. You will need to alter these but remember they must not exceed 100%
