please define what you mean... keep in mind that each site is unique and distinct... so members on network sites will not be members on other network sites or on the main site...
there is a wp plugin that makes membership cross multiple network sites and main site...
so you need to make sure within multisite that a user actually gets an account from wp on the network site in question... by default, they do not...
if other, please elaborate...

Thanks, your questions helped me research multisite settings. We are talking about SP installation on the main site only. I changed the mu setting 'users can register' from 0 to 1 which should help the situation. The default user role is 'subscriber.' (When I first started this project the default user role was 'administrator'... Yikes!)
Created a new user registration in forum (installed on network main site) and am still unable to flow through as a forum member even though registrations are enabled. Login directs me to WP profile page (a new action in the last week or so) although the login/registration component is set to the forum.
I see my tests at the Super Admin user level, but not on the site. You mentioned a plugin...??
I believe this is the plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....anagement/
so redirecting to wp profile... we dont do that by default... but wp does... we have to ways to redirect:
one, forum - options - global settings... the block admin can redirect where you want...
two, forum - components - login and registration... pick where to redirect to...
this is logging in from the forum inline login form?
as to users, on forum - usergroups - map users to usergroups, what kind of settings do you have for members?

I have been using this option for redirecting to the forum page: forum – components – login and registration. Will there be a conflict if I also use forum – options – global settings… the block admin?
On forum – usergroups – map users to usergroups, the settings I have are guests to guests, members to members, and all WP roles (except admin to moderator) are to members.
Something has recently changed because my prior tests took me directly to the forum. The only changes I made were adding the subscription plugin, setting email notifications for admins on new posts/topics, and updating the SP plugin to the most current version.
Are you using any membership or role type plugins? Some of these have been known to cause users not to be assigned to the right user group as they do not always fire the proper WP actions...
And yes - the Block admin options and redirects should play happily together.

Just completed a test after installing the multisite-user-registration plugin and setting the Block Admin option. Yay!! That seemed to do the trick.
Now my only outstanding issue is the Captcha plugin which generates a WP header already sent error... But that's already posted in the correct forum.
Thanks! The learning curve has been intense.
Sounds good. I know Steve is looking into the Captcha issue. Headers already sent errors can be hard to track down and there is a good possibility that the culprit is not within SP but something else starting to create content too early. But as I say - he is investigating...
