Admin Capabilities not limited on the front end

I have a membership group that can only be granted access to by request. If approved, an admin will need to manually add them to the group.

In the backend, I elevated a forum user to become an Admin with only "Manage User Groups" selected as a capability.

However, when said admin with limited capability goes the the "edit user profile" on the front end, s/problem-with-post-edit-buttone has full access to all members' profiles. S/problem-with-post-edit-buttone can edit Profile, Options, Usergroups, Permissions, Buddies and Adversaries, Subscriptions.

I want to limit what this admin can do to only manage user groups.

Please advise.confused

What you want to do is not currently directly supported in Simple Press... SP admins have full access to front end... Its only in the backend that the SP admin capabilities come into play...

Frankly, no one has ever asked for anything like what you are requesting... So we can add it to our list for future consideration...

It might be possible using the SP API filters and hooks to hook into the profile edit generation and not allow SP admins, except for a few specific ones, to edit profiles... but have not tried this and you would need to be able to write some php code... If interested, we can try to guide you (and us) through it...

Thanks for the reply.

I'd really like to have a super moderator, rather than an "admin". This person is basically starting an offshoot forum group of her own based on the general topic. She needs a bit more control, though, than what is offered as a moderator...and much less than what is offered as an admin.

Is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

As mentioned above: this subgroup is private and only accepted after a personal review of the application.

Unfortunately not without writing some special php code using our hooks and filters...

I understand your use case and will open a ticket for future consideration, but as I said, first request so not something we have considered before...

We discussed this and the use case makes pretty good sense. And surprisingly, its quite simple for us to add. So good chance it will make it into the next 5.1.4 release. Have made the code changes, so as long as it tests well, should be in next version.
