Support Forum
Hi there,
One of our admins was set to receive email notifications of new posts and replies. For some reason he has stopped receiving them. To my knowledge no settings have been changed in the system. I also check to make sure this option was still selected in his settings, and it is. Anyone have ideas on what to check? Also, this may have started after the latest SP update but I can't be sure.
No sorry, that's not what I meant. He's the only one set up to get notifications from the forum and they rather suddenly stopped coming in. No other admins are set up this way currently.
I asked him to check his spam and the obvious things already, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
There is no known problem with this and indeed, I am getting the emails (like the email for this post) sp it is working as expected.
Sadly WP is infamous for its email issues - just a quick search of the WP forums will tell you this. And indeed, we need an extra bit of help on this site to push out emails. My first suggestion is to to do what a lot of other WP users do and use an SMTP plugin. We use https://wordpress.org/plugins/hgk-smtp/ which, despite not being updated for a while - works just fine and gets us over the usual WP email issues.
If that doesn't help then I would check the users email settings and if good, talk to your host. But I suspect you wont need to do that!

I am facing the same issue like the poster above.
Emails are not sent to the forum moderators.
I don't feel comfortable to install a 7 year old plugin (the one you suggested) to solve the issue.
Is there another SMTP plugin that you can recommend or can my hosting provider possibly do something to make WP send out emails properly?
I dont understand the issue with plugin age... if it just does a simple job that does not change over time, why would the plugin change? just to make folks feel better?
the issue 'usually' arises because WP send email using an address of wordpress@yourdomain... many hosts, especially shared hosting servers, block email from an address if the email address doesnt actually exist... another option could be to simply create the dummy wordpress email address on your domain...
the smtp plugins out there, really just change the address from wordpress to some other email address that you probably already use (such as admin@yourdomain.com or yourname@yourdomain.com)...
WP using the wordpress@yourdomain.com address for sending emails has been that way since the beginning, so a plugin changing that just has not had to be updated...
so afraid we cannot recommend another because we have no experience with any other one than what we recommended... but just take a look at the plugin repository and find one you like better: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/smtp

Thanks for the reply, Mr Papa!
In regards of the plugin age. I generally work only with plugins that are actively developed. In my opinion that is a good practice. I found a plugin that is recommended by the Gravity Forms support (and they know their stuff very well): Postman
I found it very easy to use and really professional in the way it is made. They even have a wizard to set it all up and a connectivity testing tool which is pretty comprehensive. Really great for a free plugin, I think.
I have made the settings to use an info@ email address and all emails are sent out properly now but not the emails to moderators. I am wondering if moderators get emails when there is a new forum post or do they have to subscribe to a forum first?
Have heard good things of Postman too.
Moderators can receive the same notification emails as moderators but they do have to turn the option on. They need to visit the forum admin > Admins > Your Admin Options and do so. Alternatively - you can go to that panel and turn it on for them - see the explanatory notes on the panel and the popup help.

Thanks for your reply! 🙂
Do you actually have a name?
Yellow Swordfish?
By "forum admin" do you mean the forum admin in the Wordpress backend?
Edit: I just had a look and I found the option in the WP backend:
That means based on my decision to not (confuse the moderators with to many options) not giving access to the WP backend, they actually cannot make those settings.
Hmm ...
I think i will just tell them to subscribe to all forums one by one. This should have the same effect, right?
