Turns out, he wasn't.  BUT, the story doesn't end there.

I tried to add him to the group but am completely UNABLE to do so because their username doesn't show up in the list...Here's the view for the Moderators group when I click "Add New" and then try to filter on his username.

What now?

are you using a wildcard in the filter?  should not be needed and may confuse things... have your tried without it?

Same result if I use the full username.

are you using display name or login name (I think what you mean by user name)... for this user, are they the same?

I'm using the login name.  Not the display name.  And they aren't the same.  Should I be using the Display Name?  (which seems like an odd choice to me)

display name is what you see everywhere else...  most users pick a login name and then display it as something else...  then can be the same...  look at his profile and see what his display name is and try that...

when I can, I will look at the code and see actually what is used...

OK.  Looks like it uses display name (!) AND it's case sensitive.  You might want to change both of those, at least to be more inclusive of what the filter shows.

not sure I agree... at least about login name vs display name... 99% of our users get very testy when the login name is used for anything... mistakenly believe its a security issue... but since display name is used forward facing almost exclusively, its what most admins get used to... but we could probably add a note about its display name...

and will do some thinking about making it case insensitive... might not be a bad idea...

OK.  Followup on this same issue.

My moderator is now telling me he sees this:

When I go to the post/thread itself, what I see is this http://screencast.com/t/NsNZeFWet

The only way I could see the post/thread content is click on 'View New Posts' on top then click on the 'View' button beside the thread title http://screencast.com/t/mSJFnbOFF

The permissions are setup as I showed above, but there's no obvious permission that seems to address this.  He clearly has the view permissions to see View a Forum.

The only view permissions he's missing are:

so does that mean you have "Can view only own posts and admin/mod posts" selected?  as it says, would only see his posts and admins/mods...
