Support Forum
I had updated SP and got the annoying error message claiming that I don't have permission when I tried to update the database. Then there was another SP update and I ran that (can't remember what happened). Tried to go to the forum admin to update the database from there and couldn't find it. Finally realized that the entire forum had disappeared because the plugin was gone.
I tried to do a restore and got this message:

does your db user not have permission to perform standard fuctions? sound like not which would be very, very weird...
afraid we cannot help with a restore - that has nothing to do with simple press...you will have to take that up with your host...
you could try downloading the previous version from our archive page and see if that works... of course, if the our upgrade script made some, changes as part of the 5.7.2 upgrade, it may not work... if you restored the db from before the upgrade, the older version (5.7.1) should work fine...

nope... almost never... actually, not sure I ever remember a 'deletion of the forum'... though a handul of db upgrade errors due to permissions -usually from overly restrictive hosts... but even then, no real way for that to result in 'deletion of forum'... the upgrade would simply fail...
not sure what you did as far as 'restore' but it wouldnt involve us...
on most upgrades to simple press there is a db update required.. depends on what changes where made... if that fails, everything is left intact... in fact, I am not sure how a plugin could delete itself... if the wp update of the plugin failed (again, wp does this not us), I could conceive of an invalid plugin state, but there wouldnt be a db warning... and then, simply uploading a version via ftp would correct that...

I installed the old version and all the posts showed up again -- big relief!
Then it took a while before I could work myself up to trying this again, wanted to get a working backup first. So first I upgraded another install, no problems there. Also had no problem doing the database update.
Then I went back to the install with disappearing posts and there was some strangeness again and I think it had to do with it being multisite. Didn't lose anything and everything seems to work.
good to hear... thanks for the update...
