Support Forum
I am having an issue where I need members of one forum to be allowed to be members of another forum. I am probably missing a setting somewhere, but the one that seems should make it function does not seem to work.
In the attached PDF, you will see that the settings do not agree with one another. I have the "Users are limited to a single user group membership" turned off, yet when I try to make a user a member of two groups, it only allows them to be a member of one and gives me a message that the setting is turned off...which it should be I believe as being "off" should allow membership to more than one forum. I was afraid to change the single user group setting for fear of super messing up something. I have not upgraded to Version 5, so could try that as a possible fix, but did not want to add to many variables to trying to figure out the problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Before I look at the PDF and we discuss further can I ask why you are doing things this way?
Your users are not members of 'Forums' as such. They are members of 'User Groups'. So surely all you really need to do is set the User Group these people are already members off to view the forum in question (with the preferred permission set of course). Is that not the simpler method?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you look at the site you will see the structure is such that they are members of User Groups. So, a member of the Mega Cap I group is normally a member only of that group, but we now have an instance where a couple of them need to belong to both Mega Cap I and Mega Cap Europe groups. The forum might not necessarily be the issue--it could be the integration with WishList member, but it seems the control for the groups comes from Simple:Press. One of the problems is that not only can't I add them as a member of both forums, they cannot view site content for both groups...they can only view it for one.
This is the site:

This is the path that shows the group structure:
have you seen this: https://simple-press.com/docum.....ip-plugin/
basically, you map a wishlist member level to a wp role... then you map a wp role to a forum user group on forum - user grops - map users to usergroups and it will auto add them...
since your original post didnt mention anything about a membership plugin or auto adding the members to a usergroup, Andy thought you were manually adding them through the UI..

the link provided above is not available to us - members only...
so are users getting added auto? or are you doing it manual? if former, what happens if you try a test manually adding a user to a second user group... multiple usergroups allowed is the default setting for sp and confirmed generally working...
on the wishlist level settings for each level you, what options do you have selected for 'Remove From'? wishlist can be set up to auto remove users from other levels when getting a new level... This will cause sp to remove them from the corresponding user group...

OK - let's wind back to the beginning. I think you are misinterpreting the comment on the 'add member' panel where it reports on the status of the 'single group membership' option. When it says the user will retain the current user group membership that is correct. It will retain that AND take on the membership in the new User Group. It is merely pointing out that with the option set the way it is then multiple memberships will occur. See it as a warning for those who have not set that option when they intended to.
So - having said all that - have you actually tried to add a member to your new User Group who is already a member of the other one (if you see what I mean!)? Have you tried it and it failed or have you just not ventured that far yet?
