1. create a new WordPress blog post, enter the text "test content" in the body (use the text editor, not visual editor)
2. Enable "Create forum topic", enable "Update forum topic with subsequent edits"
3. publish
4. observe the published blog post looks okay
5. go to this newly created forum topic, click "Edit" button (Edit this post)
6. add a SimplePress smiley (PNG is being used in this test case)
7. Save Edited Post
8. observe the edited forum topic in SimplePress looks okay -- the original text with new smiley are presented as expected
9. "Read the original blog post" (go to the WordPress post page created in step 1)
10. observe there are artifact characters "rnrn" after the WordPress blog text, and "rn" after the smiley src URL:
test contentrnrn<img title="abstract" alt="abstract" src="http://my.domain.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/mysmiley.png" />rn
a bit confused... where did abstract come from in the image? is that what you called the smiley?
so if I understand, you created a blog linked topic from a wp post... then edited the forum topic and when you went back to the blog post, it had those characters. is that it?
and what does the smiley have to do with it? do the characters only get added if you add a smiley when you edit the forum topic or will it happen for any edit in the forum?
in wp 3.6, the core team altered how sanitization worked and it has been playing havoc with plugins ever since... the rn should be \r\n but the slashes are getting stripped out... we thought we had addressed any issues so will have to check into this...
with Andy on vacation and me sick the last couple of days, investigations like this are delayed.. sorry, but will make note of it and get to it... if you could provide answers to the questions above, it would help...

"Smiley" is a reference to an included function of SimplePress:
WP -> Admin -> Forums -> Components -> Smileys
To reproduce the issue (see step-by-step above), simply insert an existing smiley (for example, "sf-confused.gif" -- there's no need to introduce a custom smiley.
I didnt ask about custom smileys... I asked if for replication of the problem, it only occurs when the edit of the forum topic is a smiley... so sounds like you are saying if the edit of the topic is text only, no problem...
will try to investigate tomorrow...

okay, I can replicate this now... has nothing to do with smileys as suspected... any edit of the forum topic will cause the issue...
will get it fixed up in the next release of the plugin which should be pretty soon to handle this...

should be no later than this weekend...
