Hello folks,

Another query about version 5 and how to set up user groups and custom badges.

I offer a subscription based "club" on my community, using the WP plugin S2member, members can pay to access areas of the community, similar to here.

Once a member has subscribed, they are then given a badge to show next to their avatar and name.

Currently I have to manage members and their group memberships/custom badges manually.

For instance, a member pays their fee, then i will have to add them to the club user group to allow the relevant permissions, and then assign them the club badge as two separate actions.

Is there any way to assign members to a group automatically, so that on payment, I only have to change one setting to apply all permission and new membership badges ?

What system do you use on this website as it appears to be very effective.

With thanks

Rich

We use WishList here but you can do the same thing with S2Member. We have quite a few users on S2member I believe.

I would start by reading this short article from our Codex - http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ip-plugin/ - which explains how it works.

The key really is installing a Role manager WP plugin to go with your WP and SP. That way you can create your simple mappings. And by using the User Group badges these too will automatically show up in posts and profiles.

If it is any help we use the WP plugin Capabilities Manager which you can find here: http://alkivia.org/wordpress/capsman or from the WP plugin repository.

Hi Swordfish, thank you for the reply.

I have implemented the user mapping as instructed in the wiki, but the custom icon that i have assigned to the club user group still won't automatically attach.

S2member provides role management, which SP picks up in the user group (mapping) menu, and the mapping works fine to the WP role.

Should I try adding a new logo and mapping again?  or could there be anything else i have missed ?

With thanks

Are you saying the User Group assigned badges do not show up in posts? If so - did you make the template change that Steve (Mr Papa) signified on the other thread you had on this subject?

Solved. Thank you Swordfish.

This was the thread...it wasn't mine, but the fix Steve talks about works perfectly.

Thank you once again laugh

I'm sorry - I was convinced it was you! I should have looked it up.
But good to know all is working.
