Support Forum
I was just looking for this and found a few hints in other posts so I figured I'd give back a little and post directions. They might already be here but I couldn't find them.
We have vendor support sub-forums where the vendors that serve our membership like to be able to take questions, post special announcements, etc. and they like to be able to moderate their own sub-forums. It's a little confusing but it's definitely possible with SimplePress.
Before you get started you should go to Permissions and review the Moderator (Group 6) permissions, I found that I needed to change many of the settings before I could use the group for our vendors to moderate their own sub-forums.
First you have to set up the sub-forum and place it where you'd like it to be.
- Forums>>Create New Forum
- Forums>>Order Groups and Forums (if you need to move it from where you originally created it)
Next you have to create a new Usergroup
- User Groups>>Create New User Group
- Assign User Group Name and click the "Is Moderator" button at the bottom left corner
Now, return to Forums>>Manage Groups and Forums, scroll down and click on Forum Permissions for the sub-forum where you want to assign a moderator. A window will open under the sub-forum, click on "Add Permission"
Another window will open just below the "Add Permission" button, use the "Select Usergroup" drop down menu to select the user group that you just created for your sub-forum moderator and then use the "Select permission set" drop down to assign Moderator status.
Now go to the user profile to assign the moderator status to your user.
Go to Users and find the user whose usergroups status needs to be changed....click on the sorrowful and faceless woman in the muave sweater in the right most column which will take you to the user's profile. Then click on the washed out gummy-bear with poor posture next to where it says (Edit User Profile).
What you see after this might depend on your choice of user profile display but in our case I then select the User Groups tab and in there the new usergroup can be assigned (moderator of specific sub-forum) to the user which will display as being in addition to normal Member status.
Success!
Probably worth adding that the 'Moderator' permissions may not always be ID number 6 depending on whether the user has created new permission sets etc...
Also the moderator.member can be added to the User Group on the Manage User Groups panel where members can be added/deleted and/or moved from and between User Groups. Probably a little quicker to use this than go through the users profile.

Not at all. Permission sare as customisable as anything else. All you see when you first install SP are a set of default permissions which may or may not suit your needs... serving suggestions if you like!
Our users may well remove permission sets they do not want and many will create new ones. Many will have multiple User Groups with the 'moderator' flag set. At the end of the day which user groups are set aside for moderators and which permission sets they use are 100% your call.
