Is there any way that the user is sent an email notification without having to subscribe to every topic he starts. I mean if anyone posts on the forum, he won't need to "subscribe" for email notifications rather it'll be sent to him automatically. I was thinking about this because selecting "Subscribe to this topic" every time is a little tedious.

currently, they can auto subscribe to topics they post in... its an option in their profile...

in the next release of the subscriptions plugin, they will be able to subscribe to forums... and thus receive notification for any post in that forum...

What's the ETA for that next release of the subscriptions plugin? One of my goals is to replace a neighborhood email listserve, so letting people subscribe to forums with email instead of RSS is mission-critical.

It should be in sync with the 5.1 release...  tentatively planned for end of May timeframe...

I am not seeing this profile option in my new install -- does this require a plug-in, or am I just overlooking it?

Thanks!!

Yes - it requires the 'Subscriptions' plugin' After you install and activate it visit the subscriptions options settings as well as you will need to turn on the option that allows your users to use this feature.
Subscriptions are also a permission so you can control which groups of users can and can not use them.

Hi,

I just upgraded to Simple Press 5.1 and upgraded the Subscriptions Plug-In as well. But... I don't see the ability to subscribe to all topics anywhere. I do see the new "subscriptions" tab under profile settings, but not the functionality I am looking for.

What I am hoping to be able to do is for a member to subscribe to not just posts they have already commented on, but to get email updates on ANY new post added to a forum. This way they don't miss anything and are alerted immediately when an entirely new thread starts.

I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

I think you are mis-understanding how that works...  Users cannot universally subscribe to receive notification of any new posts...

But they can achieve the same result by subscribing to forums, in this case, subscribing to all your forums...  but you have to take the first step and set the option to allow subscription to forums...  that is on forum - components - subscriptions...

Once you have enabled subscription to forums, and the default is off because it can put a strain on your server so you need to take action to make it occur, then a user can subscribe to whatever forums they want in their profile - subscriptions tab...
