are you replying via email?  you seem to be forgetting to strip out some stuff your client is sticking in there...

as to the filter...  its 'sph_Avatar' without the quotes... 

I assume you know how to use standard wp filters?  if not, come on back and give more guidance...

not that filter will return an avatar object...  you will want to replace:

$avatar->url

with the img src of the avatar you want to use...
