Hey Alex,
What kind of file are you trying to upload? i.e What format, size etc..
You say 'recently started happening'.. Are you saying you've been unable to upload avatars for a while?
Also, have you tried uploading an image that's already been uploaded successfully before, or are you trying with a new file? Wondering if there's something wrong with the image.

The file is just a JPG. I was replacing a avatar for a user which has one that is really large. I was able to do this at another point when another user also had a large avatar file size. This is a new file.
Also, question regarding images. Do you guys optimize images? I noticed when running a speed test from Google that certain images kept popping up as needing to be optimized. I ran your images through Riot and was able to optimize them and reduce the file size. Can you take a look at that?
On the issue of uploading avatars we are not currently aware of any problems and have no other reports of problems. What is the file name of the image you are trying to upload please?
On the question if image processing generally have you reviewed the popup help on the SP file uploader admin panel and checked the settings and options you have set up?

It won't even let me upload the file. If I go into edit avatar, in user profiles, then click upload avatar, this happens:
{"type":"error","message":"Sorry, the avatar filename was empty"}
It's a blank page with just that.
And the images I asked about needing to be optimized are your own stock images.
'slpr' what please? 'slpr' is not a file name, What image extension does the file-name have?
Well all images I personally produce and supply are optimised for web display but these particular icons were not produced by me so we will need Ike to venture in and answer that one...
(Riot is not a lot of good though as they don't have an OSX version. I personally use other tools from Adobe)

The file is a jpg, so slpr.jpg.
I also tried optimizing with PNGgauntlet and it also reduces the file size by a fair amount. Additionally, I checked https://compressor.io/compress and this also reduces your images. Might want to check that as page speed made a big deal regarding several of the images.
I will take a look into optimising. The icons in Reboot are for the most part a lot lower in file size to other themes as they are 2 x colour with no anti-aliasing. However, as they are just block colour lowering the bit depth could improve things significantly. There isn't a lot else you can do to significantly lower the file size on images of this type and physical size that would result in a worthwhile size reduction.
