Can I suggest that you upgrade your blog linking plugin to the latest available? There were some changes to slug creation a while back and that version you have there has been superceded.

Let's try and get this one sorted first.

right, funny story...

I'd already thought of that, installed the new plugin, and got the same result.

Decided that I'd try some test posts (even though they'll be 'stuck' in the forum) and did one as a Draft, another with 'Subsequent edits' unchecked etc. Both worked ok.

Then saw your post, and tried a 'normal' post. That worked as well (!)

The only difference, as far as I can tell, was that I didn't use Tweet This (don't want to be tweeting nonsense any more than usual)

So, possibly issue 1 of 3 is sorted (I have some probably Cloudflare strangeness which means I don't always see new or updated data on my own connection). Suspect that if we can get the other 2 Ajax-related ones fixed as one then I can delete these forum topics as well !

ok, another update... bad news for me, better news for yourselves I suspect...

I tried - very quickly - disabling the custom theme and running 2011 for a bit. Guess what - the toolbox worked. So was able to sort out the titles and delete the test topics in the forum.

This still leaves me with the Profiles not working properly (and, presumably, er, other stuff that I've not spotted yet) - it does look like Ajax not running properly. Any ideas? I have tried disabling all plugins apart from S:P, and al widgets and bits of code in the sidebars. (I had realised that http://www.isthismusic.com/forum had a working Toolbox / Profiles... the theme at jockrock.org was very loosely based on that one but clearly something different is going on at a crucial point. No, I didn't design the themes myself!)

The cloudflare stuff is still there passing a lot of scripts back and forth on every page load.

But - I think the main problem you have is easy to solve. Your WP theme seems to be missing the mandatory call to wp_footer() - most usually in the footer theme template. See the WP default theme for guidance on how to add it.

Thanks - that was a good spot! It's kind of fixed the problem...

The profile thing and the Ajax generally is ok now.

I am getting the Toolkit popup, some of the time. In fact, it's ok (even though the hotspot seems to be under the balloon and 1 pixel tall!)

Problem is that I have 3 forums. General Discussion is the one I've been cross-posting into. But every time I access it, I get 'logged out' ("Please consider registering, guest"). When I go into one of the others e.g. Gig Listings, I get logged in again (I'm not out, as such, as I'm permanently logged into the back end). But I'm 'out' again if I access the top forum. I can arrive at the General Discussion by clicking through from the news item post. Pretty sure this was ok until very recently i.e. either the plugin update or the footer code addition.

I do recall this getting logged out in this kind of way when I was setting up the board but think it sorted itself out. (I'll have a look and see if it's a common problem but strange it's just the one forum)

Edit: I have the admin toolbar installed, so can see that I'm logged in, and the bar vanishes when I go to the General forum!

let us know what you find...

have posted any shortcodes in that one forum? or have other content that may be plugin driven? does it happen on every page in that one forum or just some?

No shortcodes, no plugins.... but this kind of sorted itself without any rhyme or reason, and then cropped up again...

To start with I couldn't get into one forum (General), all the others were ok. It became clear that it was just a few of the nwer topics, and I managed to eventually get into several of these by a combination of logging in and out, different logins etc. There was one topic - the one that was started from 'new' rather than a WP crosspost - and I managed to get into this from work (different IP address). SO I thought we were good to go, and told various people to go get registered and logged in.

A few have managed fine but now there's one user who seems t have the same problem I have in the past - "Despite having an active account (I can log into my profile if I go to ‘register’ and then ‘log in’) but I can’t actually log into the forum itself as it keeps reverting back to guest (even after I follow ‘log in’ from the forum page)."

Which is what I was getting when I set the forum up (it sorted itself out as I messed with the settings). Of course there may be many more who have just given up on it which is a worry. I've not found a FAQ or answer to this one yet, hopefully it is a common/easily sorted problem.

Let me start by explaining that registration, login and logout are not Simple:Press functions or processes. It is the WordPress site a user registers and logs into. Simple:Press is just a plugin that takes the status of the current user from WordPress. We provide optional registration, login/out buttons but all they do is emulate the WP default buttons and call the same code for processing. So - this question is really more of a WordPress question than an SP question.

The only issue that regularly crops up showing this behaviour is when the user is making use of a caching plugin (like wp-cache or wp-total-cache etc). Obviously if a cache plugin is pulling a saved page from a cache it will not show up to date information. Is that the case here?

Thanks - I get the idea that the registrations are happening on the WordPress side and would certainly understand if all users were getting blocked in this way. The way he explains it, he's actually getting to log in fine via WordPress (as he accesses his profile ok), it's only when he tries to access a S:P forum that his problems occur.

There is no caching software at work here, though Cloudflare is enabled, but I turned off the recommended caching. It's more the issue that this is happening for one user and not others - I could investigate by turning off plugins etc but it's not as if I can coordinate this with a random person somewhere on the web attempting to login again. Was just hoping that this had cropped up before and had been solved!

It's just one, single user? I would suggest he starts by clearing his browser cache see if that clears it...
