I hate to say this and sound like we are bucking the issue but it is actually a problem with Safari. The scripting engine and CSS standards are, I am sorry to say, a long way from perfect, standard or up to date with all other leading browsers.
As a long-term Mac/OSX user and Apple advocate I am actually somewhat embarrassed by Safari and find it mostly unusable. it remains, currently, an unsolved aberration.

I no longer have a Windows box so I don't have that luxury!
Just to clarify - the problems with Safari are not an OSX issue but very much a Safari specific issue. That is what is so annoying and strange. Chrome - for example - which uses the same webkit backbone and engine - has no such issues. Apple really should pull their socks up on this one bit fact is Safari has had standards issues from the very start. Sad but true.

Yeah, I'm aware that it's not an OS X problem and is caused by Safari.
I will add that Chrome is no hero either, there are display issues with it as well. I wish I could recall the one I just came across a couple weeks ago, but for the life of me can't, lol. Same sort of issue as this one in Safari though.
As much as it pains me to say it, in my limited use of Microsoft Edge, it seems very good and very fast.
IMHO, there have been more and more bugs/issues with software coming out of Cupertino over the last couple of years, desktop and mobile. Still an OS X fan, although I did bail on iOS.
