Caching plugin and Ajax

I've been working on site upgrades and the like, and have a couple of questions for you:

1. What would cause SimplePress to produce a memory leak and eat RAM until Chrome crashes that a caching plugin would produce?

2. Is AJAX necessary for the forms, or can we turn it off?

Thanks!

  1. I have no idea! Not anything we have had any other reports of. But - if this is a standard WP 'page' style cache - then you will need to exclude the forum page in any case in the cache plugin options. These sort of page cache plugins are great with static data like blog posts but can not deal with dynamic data like a forum. If you need me to test with anything then I will need more information.
  2. Simple:Press makes extensive use of AJAX. As does WordPress itself of course. Not being a 'server' man I didn't even know you could turn it off but I guess it makes sense. On the whole though, I would have thought the use of AJAX is a plus to performance. The alternative to requesting smaller chunks of data over whole page loads - even if not as small as we would like.
