Support Forum
Hello,
This might seem a really basic question but I how do you set up SImple Press to allow members to cache their login details?
I have many logging in and saying why dont you set up a Facebook community forum and I think its mostly laziness as they just want one tool to do everything and dont want to have to log in their credentials all the time. I just want the uptake to continue on the website and I think many just feel the entering of credentials everytime as being a hindrance.
Thanks
Hey Alan,
In short, Simple Press doesn't have users, all your SP users are actually WordPress users. I'm not 100% sure of course, but I don't anything we offer plugin or option wise allows you to achieve this.
I'm not actually sure of what you are asking for either! Maybe you could elaborate. Are you saying there are other WP plugins users are logged in to and they are complaining that SP needs logging in to each time they visit after being logged on in another WordPress area? Or are they coming from an external site? Sorry if maybe I am missing something in the explanation..
I would also add that caching user details like this on the front end might be potentially dangerous. Most caching of use logins are handled by browsers or plugins to browsers (like 1Password or Blur for example).
If your users are finding it necessary to login more regularly than expected, then this is going to be down to WordPress which, as Ike said above, is in total control of this facet of the site.

Thanks
Ok on some of the websites I visit it using internet explorer it offers to option to save my user credentials so that the next time I visit the same website it autopopulates my username and password normally via a cookie as soon as I type the first letter of my username.
I wouldnt do this for my website for myself when accessing it for obvious reasons but would like the option to be offered for members.
I just wondered how best to set this up but as you say this is more of a browser function although I'm not sure why in my browser this occurs with some websites and not others(like my wordpress/simple press) website
I have had this problem in the past, i.e some websites not offering to remember passwords. It could be anything really, such as you clicked 'no' once and it's disabled asking for some reason, or it could be a browser antivirus plugin option (like Norton, Avast etc..). Unfortunately not an easy one to find the fix for!
You could always try clearing cookies and cache. I suppose it's also possible that your WordPress theme has 'autocomplete="off" somewhere which disables browsers remembering login details.. It might then override the login form (as I don't think we specify)..
If in doubt you could check with your host if there is anything stopping users creating cookies. WordPress does store cookies for users so if it is not happening then as Ike says, something is interfering. It is certainly nothing that Simple:Press can influence.
