Hi,

Is there anyway of showing recently updated topics in my actual blog, please? I want to be able to show what topics are being chatted about but just show the headings and not the full posts as the forum is for members only.

Thanks

I would suggest you take a look at the recent posts widget which is available in the SP Template Tags plugin. We use it below - third column over...

Have uploaded it and activated it. Can't see any change. What do I do now, please? How do I get the widget to show on my front page? Thank you.

We use it with the post content as tooltip turned on (when you hover the mouse) but that is an option you an turn off in the widget form.

on the wp widgets admin panel with the rest of any wp widgets...  under appearance...

you do, of course, have to have the sp template tags plugin installed...

Blimey, sorry; I must be blind as a bat. I looked there for ages and now there it is!

Have installed it. My forum is for members only. Currently if you are signed in, you can see the post title and when you hover, part of the post shows. If not a logged in member, nothing shows at all.

What I was trying to do was to put the post titles on the front page of my site to tease non-members and encourage them to become a member. Is there any way of doing that ie showing just the titles at all, please?

Thanks

well, the forum and topic titles in the widget are subject to the same permissions as your forum...  so if guests cannot view the forum, they cannot view the widget stuff either...

you could try using the sneak peek stuff...  two permissions, on lets you let users view the forum titles only, the second, lets them view forum and topic titles... neither let them see the posts themselves...  if they try to go to the post, you can display a special message, such as 'why dont you join our community' or redirect to a special page...

BUT, this would have to apply to the forum and the widget...  they use the same permissions...

Ok, thanks. Nice idea but my forum page is protected for members only; they can't even get to it unless they are logged in.

Thanks for your speedy help.
