My site has a custom link to a page to register for the forum, which goes to an auto-responder form.
I don't see a way to direct the Simple-Press registration button away from the WordPress login/register button to the page I want.
So either finding a way to remove the Registration button or change the link would solve the problem.

You can change the url but it is probably better to remove it. You will need to remove it from the spHead.php template in your theme templates folder, it's near the top and you should have no problem identfying which function it is! You can use the theme editor to do this.
