Wondering if you can give me the code to change the post header to have a 3rd column on "Stacks" so that they aren't so tall. I would want "Online" and the icon to be in the top right hand corner in the third column and the social page icons to be under that.

This is the header that I am referring to:

Thanks

ummm... not sure I follow... the stacked theme is already 4 columns...

col 1 - avatar

col 2 - name, rank

col 3 - user info

col 4 - identities

and the identity icons should be in the upper right... so I think you have a very narrow width there... only about 640px...

you just need to play with the current column widths to fit your narrow space...  look for this in your spTopicView.php template file:

                        sp_SectionStart('tagClass=spUserSection');
and then you will see the four columns and assigned widths...  play with them until it works... I would start with something like 7%, 16%, 40% and 30%.... you could use fixed width too since you know your wp theme dimensions...

Thanks Papa,

That was exactly what I needed. I changed the indentities column to 35% and everything popped up to where it should be making it all look so much neater. I didn't realize that the columns were separate, LOL.

Now to fix the main header (don't know what it is called). This is what it looks like now.

First I want less space between the 1st and 2nd row.

Next I would want the quick links to be in the same row but I had to add a break to make it look right because of my narrow WP theme. Would rather play with the percentages as I did with the topicView.php

Probably want to change the breadcrumbs as I don't like the height.

Lastly, when the pages are loading the quick links are way off to the right looking strange. This is also a narrow WP theme issue. 🙂

Maybe someone would be doing a lot of people a favor if they made a "Theme for Narrow WP themes". laugh

Thanks again.

yes because of narrowness... but you are on the right track... the power of themes!

you can change breadcrumbs to be on single line (might wrap to more than one for long topics) with tree=0 in the breadcrumb template tag args...

Yes, power of themes. I really look forward to when you guys have a lot of themes to choose from. I loved the "Lifestyle" skin from the earlier SP versions.roll

What's the minimum WP width that the available Themes are designed for and still look decent? In case I can solve a ton of problems by just increasing my with by a few points. I've actually never messed with my WP theme. LOL

ya know, never really analyzed what width works... most forum apps (ie phpbb, vbulletin, smf, etc) you see will be full width... simplest thing would be to just remove your sidebar on the forum page and use all that width...

We are certainly hoping that we get a lot of user contributed themes... we may create a few more over time too!

I assume you looked at some of the color overlays with default? over a dozen different colors to choose from...

I am thinking it would be a good idea to have a nice looking theme that works in conjunction with a WP stock supplied theme like 2010 which you are running.

Kinda an out of the box SP theme that fits nicely with the out of the box WP theme. I highly recommend that if you want to stand out you get a good custom WP theme and customize your SP theme to match but I know not everyone has the ability or time to do so.

With that, here is my offer for anyone that cares to contribute to this. On my test site http://placesitting.com/forum/
I have created a specific forum for just that. Depending on users input and feedback I will make changes and once finalized I will submit them for official inclusion in Simple Press.

So it's up to you and others to give feedback as to what you would like and with that we can put something together for all.

nah, lets just rag on the stupid twentyten and twentyeleven devs for lacking common sense... wink

actually it would be good to have a general theme for those really narrow widths...

any narrow theme really should use a stacked type arrangement, which you are...  but you need to adjust the column widths on spTopicView.php...  so the above post info is really in the 4 columns... maybe something like 7%, 15%, 40% and 30%...

the quicklinks and quickforum look a bit odd spaced above the search like that... might be better to stack them one on top of the other, in parallel to the search input and link?? thats actually a tough area for the narrow stuff...

but definitely a good start... thanks for taking it on!
