Support Forum
Hi everyone,
I've just added my first simple-press forum to a site. http://www.plymouthtriclub.co......k/forum-2/ and I'm having difficulty with a couple of things, while I am being overwhelmed by all of the options.
Firstly the Add Topic button doesn't work. I did have w3 total cache on the site, but I saw that this could cause problems so I deactivated and uninstalled it. The Add Topic feature still doesn't work though.
Secondly the forum seems to appear twice on the page. Once above the main club content page and once in it. I'd like to remove the top one and make the second one fit the page a bit better. If you can point me in the right direction that would be great.
Sorry for the newbie nature of my questions, but I am doing this in my spare time of which I have little.
Thanks in advance for your help
Richard
I just sorted the twice on the page thing by tweaking the settings in the Integration option. The forum still looks too narrow within the wordpress loop though, so how do I go about making it fit the page width inside the WP content, with a small border.
I still have the Add Topic button issue as well.
Time's up, back to the day job for now......
I can see nothing obvious causing a refusal for the add topic button to work so might need an account so I can actually get into the forum to see what us going on. If there is a problem it is likely simple to resolve.
The width is caused by the WP theme (WP - 2011) and this is the WordPress team's idea of a full-width page. We have often joked about this as it is quite bizarre. The only real way around it is to create a special page template as any CSS changes you make to overcome it will effect other pages and posts.
Or... wait until WP 3.5 is released (and it is already overdue) and when you update switch to their new 2012 theme which is more or less the same but DOES perform a proper full-width page. Plus it has some other advantages as well so worth considering.

That sort of suggests that you may well have some JavaScript running on your site that is IE specific and probably intended to try and work around the inherent problems with older versions of IE. Compatibility mode might work well with it but using IE10 in standard mode doesn't. And that would mean that it is almost certainly throwing script errors so do you know how to look for these?

I had no issue adding a topic in IE 10... this was in standard IE 10 mode...

Oh good old Internet Explorer.. never fails to come up after an update!
It is fully tested on IE10 so we know fundamentally it all works so I would suspect some sort of javascript issue - maybe with something you have that only runs with IE.
I, myself, do not have access to IE or Windows so I can't try it at the moment. Steve will be along later who can look.
But I believe I am right in thinking that IE10 comes with some tools to view errors now so if possible could you see if anything is getting reported in whatever error console they have put in place?

Actually, IE 10 is not fully released yet (only for IE 8) so technically not fully supported yet... that said, as Andy indicated, I have fully run through this site and many of our test sites with IE 10 and am only running into one issue... The file uploader does not work right except when files are dragged and dropped... and this is due to IE 10 not supporting silverlight (nice move MS - stupid)... and they are trying to resolve it upstream at plupload...
IE 10, like previous IE releases, could be an issue for wp themes that are too greedy with their special IE rules (still sad we have to do that) that may no longer be needed in IE 10..
do you have a link to your site?
