It is sort of working for me. I've updated to 2012 and patched IE10 to the latest version and the problem persisted, but I found that if I click, hold the mouse down and wait for the popup tooltip to disappear before releasing the mouse button then it will go into a forum, add a topic/reply etc. Is there a way of disabling the tooltip? I have the same problem on my Windows Surface tablet and my Windows 8 PC with IE10.

Curious stuff.
yes you can remove individual tooltips by a simple edit to the SP template. In this case the spTopicView.php template in your SP theme. If you look you should find the display function sp_PostNewButton() - note it appears twice in that template. The third parameter is the tooltip - just remove the text leaving the empty quotes.
As always we recommend that you create your own SP theme so that any customisation is not lost during a future update. (http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/)

interesting... are you actually getting tooltips on the windows table??? We disable tooltips when a mobile device is detected... wonder if this means that the surface tablet is not identifying itself as a tablet??? knowing MS, wouldnt put it past themselves...
