HI,
I've just updated my wordpress to the very latest version WP 4.0 and Simple Press 5.5.2
In the hope that it would solve the issues I've been having when trying to post text from the clipboard.

But whatever I do I still get the same error message:
http://screencast.com/t/taredtIFZ1

I've tried pasting as plain text, pasting from notepad pasting from other plain text editors etc, I'm just not getting anywhere.

The problem arises as I tend to copy the text before posting as often when I hit the reply button I fnd I'm now logged out of the forum and I lose the post.

Either way I would like to be able to copy text into my posts and to allow others to do this.

Please help asap as I've been trying to sort this for the last 24hrs and I'm pulling my hair out now.

I think I have to start by asking you to try pasting text into a post in this thread just to make sure all is well under normal circumstances.

I find this comment - 'The problem arises as I tend to copy the text before posting as often when I hit the reply button I find I'm now logged out of the forum and I lose the post' - somewhat disturbing. And yes - it may be related. Why are you getting logged out? Do you have some sort of login/logout plugin involved? What about a cache plugin?

no cache plugin that I'm aware of, only just updated to plugin version this morning, and all ive added is the editor and subscriptions plugins.
I tested the test exactly on a SP test forum yesterday no probs it accepted it.
I think as I dont shut down my laptop, it just sleeps, I keep chrome open and generally try and stay logged in on sites I use all the time, sometimes I find I'm logged out, due to time outs I suppose (I dont understand the mechanisms involved)

pasted:

Hope someone made a profit on the above, a single 68th min goal was enough to win on both the lay and the correct score markets.

With the internationals over for now and the Prem League more settled with pretty much everyone having played 10 games I'm back at it.

Will try stakes as 1-40pts for now. 40 being the maximum bet/risk per trade.

Southampton Leicester

Fixed odds

0-0 HT @ 5/2 1pt

Correct Scores 1-0,2-0 1pt each @ 7/1.

Trading

10 pts Southampton @ HT if level or earlier if they concede a goal.

Liverpool Chelsea

Fixed Odds

I'm against Liverpool right now.

And been as Paddypower are offering money back if it ends a draw (for those with an unrestricted account) the 23/20 with them on Chelsea has to be the bet.

25pts Chelsea @ 23/20 Paddypower (with the draw concession)

Trading

The tactic here is simple to get a bigger price on Chelsea in running, go for 2.75 upto 60mins max. 7.5 pts.

Will cover more games, time permitting before the weekend.

So - confirmed this is not a general issue which means it is something to do with your own environment. The 'headers already sent' error at this point is a curious one as it means something is trying to send a 'header' request to the server even though it has already been sent and the page started  to display.

  1. Can we just confirm. Is it at the save of the pasted post that you get this error? Or when you actually try and paste content - which would be bizarre as no code is run at that point?
  2. Can you try posting something that is NOT created using MS Word? Word is just about the last thing you should really use as it embeds reams and reams of hidden control characters and styling which the editor will try and get rid of bit will never successfully remove all of the junk. A plain text editor is preferanble always...
  3. Also can you go to the forum admin > toolbox > error log. Clear it using the burton at the bottom. Then try a paste operation and when you see the error look to see of there are any errors reported.

Yes basically when I try to reply on a thread and hit submit reply this happens - although I also tried pasting into old posts and I get the same error, or the text simply doesn't appear.

Word is just about the last thing you should really use as it embeds reams and reams of hidden control characters and styling which the editor will try and get rid of bit will never successfully remove all of the junk. A plain text editor is preferanble always...This worked!! Opened a new text doc on notepad and typed into there, and then used ctrl c and ctrl v and it did it no problems. Very strange.
Just did the same this time using a blank new word doc, again it worked no probs.

I've come to the conclusion on what must be causing this.
When I type a long post in the reply section, in the past I've lost it all due to being logged out etc, so as a habit I copy it out of the post area and into another doc. I then go back to the reply area and paste from that doc into the post, THIS is what must have been causing the issue. It seems I can paste text created OUTSIDE SP, but when I try and paste text that was ORIGINALLY created in the post box, then it appears to cause all sorts of issues.
I have no idea why, only that this has been a sporadic issue that I've had in the past, obviously solved by re typing so no a total disaster anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion as I think I can work with it now and just compose posts outside if they are going to be long ones.

On another thing, is there a way to get rid of the RSS button?
It doesn't work and I dont want it anyway.

OK - now I'm getting "request 408" time outs.

If you want to turn off all RSS feeds then you can do that on the forums 'Global RSS Settings' admin panel.

A 408 means some sort of conflict on the server. It may need a discussion with your hosting company.

But... I would still welcome a result from an experiment to cut MS Word out of the equation. Can you not try this with, say, Notepad for example? You clearly have something not quite right that needs to be tracked down.

If the error log is empty then you may need to take a look at the server php error log which should have some information...

Thank you.

My internet/server was just on a go slow so no worries there.

I have tried to replicate the problem by doing what I did before, typing into the reply box, copying out to notepad and then back into a reply ont he forum, and its working fine now.
I did this first using notepad as the holding place for the text and the with word, both times no probs.
Weird as I cant replicate the problem now.

I have looked in my cpanel error log and it is empty: http://screencast.com/t/C7HPrCAh

I have toggled off the enabled feedkeys option in global settings but it doesn't appear to have done anything (i did this prior to asking) I still have both "topic RSS" and "All RSS" buttons on the forum. See http://screencast.com/t/P8MiWVz6

feedkeys are not the same as rss feeds...  go to the admin panel andy referenced, forum - forums - global rss settings and you can disable all feeds...
