Hi

I installed Forum On WP 4, Latest Version 5.5.1.

I would like to use french language, but in the Forum settings, I get :

Your site language setting is English/US and therefore no translation files are required for Simple:Press

I doube checked my Wordpress, I set it in French in the global options.

Any way I couls simply solve this issue ?

thanks

Hey Marc,

Have you had a look at the localization tutorial in the Codex? Probably just need to update your wp-config file.

Also, have you downloaded any translations?

To explain a little more, after we created the auto download of translation files - WordPress appeared to change the way they constructed the language file names which means things went a little wrong. We will try an update this very soon.

For now you will need, I am afraid, to go to the manual method as Ike linked to above

Hi

thanks for your answers. Yet nothing works. SP still tells me my language is US, and not french as set in the backen & in the WP config file. I tried multiples config with & without _FR added to .po file.

I also added file to theme translation.

Can someone from SP have a little more information about this simple / Basic need of translation  ?

Thanks

Also When I get back in general option, WP4 tels me WP_LANG is obsolete, maybe this is not used anymore to define Lang in the system. SP made me update to WP4 for install... maybe you noticed this ?

Correct. WP_LANG is no longer required. As I said before you need to ignore the SP Languages admin panel as following what appeared to be last minute changes to the file name conventions and the very late decision to deprecate WP_LANG, SP was left with a largely non-functional automatic option. So until we can get that fixed up in an update users will, sadly, need to revert to the older, original method of manual installs of the MO files.

So - please describe for me what you have done? Where have you put the MO files you have downloaded? What have you named them? What is the file name of your main WordPress language MO file?

Hi

so my file sp-fr-FR.po

I tried with different naming sp-fr_FR.po, also sp-en_EN.po...

It is  in /wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/simple-press

Nothing happens.

Well - you did not tell me the file name of your WordPress language file as I asked so I will have to make the assumption that it is named 'fr_FR.mo'.

And if that is correct then Simple:Press language files should have the name of the component (i.e., 'sp' fpr the core file) followed by a dash and then the Wp language file name which would be - if my assumption is correct - 'fr_FR'.

So - the final file name of the core file would be 'sp-fr_FR.mo'.

Note however that this requires the .mo file NOT the .po file. It is the .mo file that contains the translations in a format that WordPress can make use of. If you downloaded the Po files then you need to go back and download the actual mo files.

Also note that the core 'sp' file does not really contain that much as the majority of the translations are made via the Sp theme you are using. The easiest way to discover whether the core 'sp' language file is working is to look at the 'about' popup from the footer.

Hi thanks

I eventually got it OK through Template Traduction file.

Thanks a lot for your help. Just want to let you know the codex is not very understandable. I suggest you add more step by step instruction and add some example/screenshots.

everything is fine now :)
