“damer messages”...! Sorry typo for 'same messages'!

Now the original message you received might have shown up if you upgraded SP plugins before the core and ran the forum admin. It would have perhaps tried to use a function which was not there yet as it was in the core SP 5.5.3. At least that is the only thing that comes to mind...

I really do think you need to perform all the upgrades again - starting with WP then SP core and then the SP plugins and see what happens. And if a problem after that we will be in a stronger position to help and sort it out.

I updated to WP4.1 then I updated Simple Press.

I got the following:

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

Updating Plugin Simple:Press (1/1)
Simple:Press updated successfully. Show Details.

All updates have been completed.

Upgrade the Simple:Press Database | Return to WordPress Updates | Return to Plugins page

However, when I click "Upgrade the Simple Press Database" then I get:

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

I have full admin rights and don't see how I wouldn't have permission to access a page.

On the plugins page of my dashboard, it still shows SP5.5.2 and that I need to update to 5.5.3.

All of that is what I encountered on Sunday (I'm now remembering).

Can you confirm that the message 'You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page'  is EXACTLY what you see because this is not one of our messages so we would need to try and find out where it is coming from.

That's the exact wording. I copy-and-pasted it.

This is actually a WordPress message saying you do not have permission to use that menu item.

If you look down the actual WP menu on the left do you have a Forum item and are you allowed to use that?

Yes, I do have "Forum" on the menu on the left, and I can access that.

So - any progress? Have you run the update now?

I'm sorry for being dense but I ran the update (as I mentioned above), but when I click "update the Simple Press database" I get a message telling me I don't have permission to access that page.

Then you asked if I had "Forum" on my lefthand menu and if I could access it. I said yes.

Apparently there's something I should do from there to update the database.

So I went there again. And I ran the update again. And I get the exact same thing again.

Although I have run the update and gotten the message that "Simple Press has successfully updated" -- on my updates page it is still showing SP5.5.2.
