Can't upload avatar

Just installed latest version of SP…when I go into a user profile and use the browse button to select and upload an avatar from my local c: drive, the file path returned always has a “fakepath” inserted after the c: which I am unable to change as the field is read-only. I’m using Internet Explorer (not sure if that matters). Is this a bug or something peculiar to my system??

It is a feature of IE designed to hide the true file path as a security measure.

It should still work if you go ahead and accept it. I think it can also be turned off somewhere deep in the IE options.

Thank you for the info…yes…seems to be an IE thing, because it doesn’t happen in Firefox. In IE though, I don’t see a way to ‘accept it’…the field is read only and I can’t over-type the fakepath portion of the path. Maybe it’s just the version of IE I’m using but either way it’s a pain. I don’t mind using FF, but what about my users? …if they get the same problem, they will think there’s a bug with the site!!!  :-(

actually all the browsers can do it…  but IE is the most hidden… just google it…

but why would you try to type over it?  the real path is hidden behind the scenes in the browser…  its not simple press doing it…

you can just press on with the upload and it will get stored in the proper location and not reveal that location to users…
