I have downloaded the spanish translation file sp-es.mo and I have uploaded it to the /public_html/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/simple-press folder.
I have also modified the line inside the wp-config.php file where it says define('WPLANG', 'es_ES');
Is that the right procedure?
looks about right.... of course, that is only the core language file... you may need the translations for the theme and plugins you are using if you want full translation...

Actually - that depends. It is better to modify the name of the language file than the wp-config setting.
But the rule is they have to be the same. So you options are:
wp-config: 'es_ES' and the MO file name 'sp-es_ES.mo'
or:
wp-config: 'es' and the MO file name 'sp-es.mo'
but a mix of both will not work. So it really depends on what other translations you may have active (i.e., WordPress blog or other plugins).
