The difference (attachments) is because you are not using the integrated editor toolbar like we do here. Different label is used.

On the 'thanks' issue - can you tell me which SP theme you are using...?

Very odd. Looking at the spTopicView.php template all text associated with the 'thanks' plugin are parsed through the translation function so they should all be present in the PO file and translated if exists in the MO.

I've got one other line of text I cannot source where to edit for translating into French. The phrase 'no existing uploads' from the File uploader plugin, please see screencast below:

I don't seem to be able to find it in the File Uploader plugin or Uploads Viewer plugin .po files, or on the admin panel.
