Support Forum
Hi guys,
I had a issue that started almost a year ago, with forum users that cant load the forum page because a temporary block from the webhost server. The block is auto generated from a security rule when users have to many connections to the Apache server.
The webhost really spended a lot of time to help me, but we cant figure out what trigger all the connections. Look at the log and the number of connections:
May 3 17:57:02 manu20 lfd: IP x.x.x.x found to have 531 connections - Blocked for 180 secs
May 3 18:00:02 manu20 lfd: Incoming IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 3 18:00:02 manu20 lfd: Outgoing IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 4 15:54:49 manu20 lfd: IP x.x.x.x found to have 393 connections - Blocked for 180 secs
May 4 15:57:52 manu20 lfd: Incoming IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 4 15:57:52 manu20 lfd: Outgoing IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 5 14:54:48 manu20 lfd: IP x.x.x.x found to have 375 connections - Blocked for 180 secs
May 5 14:57:48 manu20 lfd: Incoming IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 5 14:57:48 manu20 lfd: Outgoing IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 5 22:25:51 manu20 lfd: IP x.x.x.x found to have 481 connections - Blocked for 180 secs
May 5 22:28:52 manu20 lfd: Incoming IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
May 5 22:28:52 manu20 lfd: Outgoing IP x.x.x.x temporary block removed
The thing is, i get all those connections registered (and me blocked) with only one tab open in my web browser. And sometimes as soon as only 5-10 clicks within the forum. How is it even possible to get that many connections registered after only a few click in the forum?
It´s the same problem with IE, Firefox and Chrome. I want to point out that some users never encountered this issue. Still they use the same web browser, ISP and some even live in the same neighborhood. The webhost really tried everything including maximize the threshold, but the issue remain. Help!
I appricate all input in this matter!
Cheers
My own initial response is just puzzlement but then I am not really that knowledgeable on server issues.
The only question that comes to mind is whether you have something performing a lot of repetitive, timed AJAX calls - like a Chat plugin for example - that sort of thing...
If you load the site and open the web console to watch http/xmlhttp requests do you see lots being spawned...
