Well you have options, the first and most straightforward would be as you’ve said – to create a permission set you want every forum within the group to adhere to and assign it to the group itself in conjunction with the usergroup you want it to affect.

This will overwrite any permissions assigned to said usergroup individually in place on forums inside the group though, so as a second option you could set permissions to the forums in the group individually if you need more control.

But yes that’s really the best / quickest / easiest way.

You can create a permission set where people can only reply by toggling the permissions in the ‘Creating’ section – i.e ‘Can start new topics in a forum’ off and ‘Can reply to existing topics in a forum’ checked.

The fact that I can set the entire set is a real time saver for me since the nature of my layout works within that set up…
