Hello - I'm a little unsure of the correct setting for these two global options; by default they are unchecked, suggesting that you have to check them to turn on the combining/caching.
__ Enable combining and caching of forum CSS files
__ Enable combining and caching of forum script (JS) files
However, the popup help for them says that by default SP combines the CSS & JS, & says these options let you disable the combining:
In order to improve performance and limit the number of HTTP requests per page load for all the forum CSS and script (JS) files, by default Simple Press combines or concatenates the CSS and script files into one CSS file and two script files (one for header and one for footer). With these options, you can disable this combining and force individual loading of each CSS and script file.
So do I need to check these to (hopefully) improve performance, or does checking them disable the performance improvement?
Thanks,
Kelly
I will open a ticket to get that help text adjusted. I think the confusion is there because up until a few versions ago we supplied those values turned on - i.e, checked. But there are some rare circumstances where a users server is setup that can not use them combined and cached so we changed that bit not - it appears the contextual help.
Actually - this reminds me to check those circumstances as well as we may be able to switch back now, IO will investigate.
Anyway - yes indeed - turn them on for improved performance. You will know quickly if there are any problems but they are, as I say, very rare.

its defaulted off because some server configurations cause issues with writing the cache... original thought was better to not potentially introduce errors for folks and have to disable... as Andy says, we can discuss changing back but need to be cautious... either way, the help should agree with the actual setting...
