Not getting any where with hosting support. What do I need to direct them to do or is there a workaround?

Your server has returned a status code ofwhile attempting to communicate with the Simple:Press server to establish up to date version information.
Additionally, WordPress reported the following: cURL error 6: name lookup timed out
WordPress will retry this operation automatically but if the condition persists we firstly recommend seeking assistance from your hosting support team and then contacting Simple:Press support if they are unable to help.

This started after we added a SSL to the site.

Thank You

I get the typical low level don't want to work response from them.

Added core control plugin this is the error I get

Other than getting them to increase the timeout any other suggestions?

of course they dont...  😉

but that gives me the info I wanted... and verifies that the call to our server api is not https...

so take the url and punch it into  your browser... what do you get?  should be a xml response...

its definitely working and we have thousands of requests to it daily...  so why is it timing out for you?

The 5 second timeout is set by us... the WP default (we use their api) is 1 second... we increased it not for any particular reason but just trying to be safe...  harder to imagine your server would be that slow in talking to ours, but we can try a test and increase it to see what happens...

if you go to file wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-startup/site/sp-site-support-functions.php and edit that file around line 665 you will find this line:

        $options = array('timeout' => 5);

try increasing the 5 to 10 or something else as a data point..

odd that your server communicating with ours would take that long... in testing (and of course far from comprehensive or statistically valid), most connections happen in second or less...

I will open a ticket and see if any downside to increasing that time or allowing a method for users to increase...  thanks for the update...
