Hi,

We are playing around with custom icons for the forums and groups.

When you are not logged in the icons are ok.

But the moment a forum user logs in some icons change back to default

We've tried couple things like removing it and adding it back.

Delete the forum or group and adding it back but no success.

Did any of have the same issue ? and what did you do 🙂

Have an OUTSTANDING day

It is possible we have over-complicated this to some extent but this has always been done after receiving user requests and feedback. And - coincidentally - I have been thinking of proposing a change as it happens. But...

What you are almost certainly seeing is that you have supplied a main custom icon but not icons for the other states - ie., when there are unread posts in the forum. There are actually 3 states a forum can be in listed on the create/edit forum admin form. (Nothing new, new and unread posts, locked. In addition there are a further 5 states that a topic can be in which also can have a custom icon). So if your forum is in any one of those states - i.e., there are topics with unread posts, and if there is no custom icon for that, it will revert to the default icon supplied with the forum theme.

So - could that be the issue?

For the record - I have, as I said, been pondering this recently. We could offer to use the base custom icon if exists for all states. The problem with that is that it loses important functionality and visual clues. I would be interested in your opinion in fact.

@yellow-swordfish  Thank you for your reply.

And you are right when I change all states with the same icon it is ok.

Maybe it is over-complicated as you say but now we know how it works it is a nice to have thing 😉

The only thing is when updating the options it jumps to the top, it would be great if there is a work around that so it stays on same forum when updated.

But that is a other topic or maybe an existing topic I did not read yet.

thanks again for your fast reply

are you saying after editing a forum and saving the changes, you are no longer editing that same forum?

if so, afraid not much we can do about that - at least right now... we are contemplating an overhaul of the admin, so would be something we could keep in mind for that...

if not, could you please elaborate?

@mr-papa Correct first part 😉

So if you can keep it in mind that would be GREAT.

For now I will see it as a known thing.

Thanks have a GREAT weekend,
