I get an error on the storage location for Custom Icons Folder after upgrading from v4.5.1. After installation, it points at /wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/styles/icons/default/custom/. What should be the actual folder location?

Thanks.

This is the only storage location we were unable to deal with and should only effect really old, long-term users and I am sorry about that.
You can, of course, both name and locate the folder wherever you want - that is the reason for the storage locations.
The default for a brand new install is /wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons

I upgraded from 4.5 to the new 5.0. I have been trying to figure out how to get my ICONS back into this new theme. What I thought i read was to create a new folder under wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons, I created this, but I am unable to put an icon file in here. . yet in my forum plugins/simple-forum/styles/icons/default/custom is in green.

So, where in the heck to you put your customer iCONS??? It should not be this difficult to resolve.

/www/www/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/forum-custom-icons is where I was trying to put it, that didn't work,

then I tried:

/www/www/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons  and that didn't work... PLEASE help me resolve this.

Thanks,
brian

/www/www/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons

I have this in my site, but I can not put my custom icons in this folder.

Thanks and this is really frustrating to say the least.. I was so happy about the easy upgrade, but this step has wasted too much of my time and thoughtful consideration of this needs to be examined for future "pain points" for users of your product.

Please help me get this what appears to be very difficult task accomplished.

not a difficult task... but your server settings may be making it more difficult than it needs to be...

when you say you cannot put icons in that folder, do you mean with ftp?? if so, more than likely you have joined the small handful of folks who's server settings didnt allow us to create those directories properly... and they ended up getting the wrong user as owner...

so with ssh or contact your host and check on the user and group owner of the sp-resources directly... it probably needs to be changed to be accessible by the web user...

From my hosting company:

Hi, (my ticket)

I installed a new forum in my PLugins section. I am trying to create a folder :
/www/www/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons

The folder is forum-custom-icons. However, I can't seem to put a .png or .jif file in there. My Forum providers says this;
not a difficult task

Hello,

The /www/www/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons directory has your main FTP user as its owner, and it has permissions that would allow any of your FTP sub-accounts to create and edit files there. There is no obvious reason for this problem. Please provide us with more details - are you uploading the files via FTP, or via the File Manager of your Control Panel? What error do you get? If using an FTP client, what server settings do you use? Thank you.

Best regards,
Support

I see some default Icons w/in the forum topics, however, I don't see them on my home page

I had some really kool ones I liked. From reading this over again, do I have to create my own theme to be able to add icons?

Thanks,

brian

Depends what you mean by 'custom icons'. In SP that refers to replacement icons for Group and Forum views - i,e., the icons on the left of each forum.
if that is what you are referring to then these can be uploaded in the custom icons admin panel to that folder and then attached in the edit group/forum panels.
If you mean old V4 style 'icon sets' then V5 now uses themes and templates and has a different structure. These are no longer used. We have tried to make that clear.

I am new to simple Press and doing an upgrade to the new version (so I am not a long time user--per a post above about his being an "old" issue). I manually created the custom icons folder as suggested above. I then ftp'd a single icon into the folder.

However I am still getting the error message that the custom icon location does not exist or is not writable. When I go to Manage Groups and Forums and want to add an icon to one of the groups, the custom icon field is in blue and I am not able to enter an icon.

Any idea on what I can do to add an icon for each of my Groups?

Thanks.
