I've been trying to figure out how to get a standard forum URL like this: site-name.com/forum/topic-name
First I deleted the forum name so it only has decription but it still comes up with: site-name.com/forum/forum-1/topic-name

That IS a standard SP url. The name of the forum is necessary to resolve the view.

and actually its a standard url for a wp page...  in our case support-forum is the page slug the forum appears on...  so you have sitename.com/page-name/forum-name/topic-name
