I would also like to remove the moderation.
I set up 'Standard access', and checked "can bypass all post moderation"
People can start a new post with no moderation, but can't reply to a post.
Thoughts?

forcing moderation on what? new topics and replies? we have no facility for only using moderation on replies... if both, try going to forum - toolbox - housekeeping and resetting the auths cache...
no wp caching plugins on the forum page, right?
