A tech person - not paying attention - restored my site to a few days before I had upgraded everything on it including Simple Press.  Now I get a message that I don't understand ... could you help me get my forum back on line?

Here is the message:

"It appears you are attempting to downgrade your Simple:Press Version. The Build or Version number in the sp-control.php file is lower than the currently installed version in the database.

You must restore your database to this earlier version before you can continue. You cannot simply downgrade Simple:Press files as the database has been upgraded beyond the version you are attempting to downgrade to and may cause irreparable damage to the database."

That means you upgraded the database to a newer version (ie 5.2) but then loaded an older version of the plugin into the wp plugins folder (ie 5.1.4)...   since the database was upgraded, its not compatible with the older version...  you would also need to restore the old db to keep working...  or just upload a new copy of the plugin to the wp plugins folder...

Yeah - that is what the tech guy did .. blah ..

What I am trying to do is understand how to fix it.  So when you say upload a new copy of the plugin to the wp plugin folder - you mean download to my computer the newest version of simple press and then manually upload it the simple press wp folder?

I don't want to make a bigger mess than is already there.

Will my forum stuff still be there?

Thanks!

yes, that is what I am saying...   download a new copy of the 5.2 simple press...  extract it from the downloaded zip archive...  manually upload it with ftp to the wp plugins directory... just overwrite what is there...

you should be good to go...

you wont lose any forum stuff because its stored in the db or directories outside the plugin folder...

when you extract the downloaded zip, you will get a simple-press folder... you will want to upload that to wp-content/plugins... you should already have a simple-press folder there (unless its a really old version) so just upload over the top of the existing one...
