I have no problem updating but with the breakdown of 5.0 into multiple plugins I wish to know one simple answer.

If I want to just try to make the new version 5.0 work like my prior version does with little worries what should I do?

Should I install and activate EVERY OPTIONAL PLUGIN for 5.0?

Will all my member access settings and groups be correct?

In other words, how can it be done where the result is as simple as upgrading from 4.4.5 to 4.5.1 and no other action, is this even possible?????

Scared to try at this point....

Probably not. There are some new ones (like the Admin bar) that you may not want. I would install the ones you have turned on in your current forum. PM, Watches, Subscribe, etc.

Possibly not. You should double check the permissions for each group when you install a plug in. IE, add the Subscriptions plugin go to permissions and check they are set the way you want it.

I wouldn't be scared to try but would be prepared to try. Make sure you have time to install and double check everything.

admin bar did exist before in core, so if you were using it previously you will want it again... same for most of the plugins... they used to be part of core...  only a couple of new ones...

but read the description for each plugin... if you want that capability, install it... if not, dont... you can always add it later...

if you make a db backup before you upgrade, you can always go back...

I have over 900 members who depend on the forums for support and just trying to get everything in order to go.

I think I will atleast do what was recommended in another thread, make some screen captures of all my current permissions for groups etc as a quick reference to match to real quick.

I will try to document steps, and if works good, post it for others like me to give a real life guide! wink

I really look forward to simplepress to be easily update once swithed over to 5.0 through wordpress regular admin update...that is the motivation to swith over at this point!
