"Edit Your Profile" button: Need to better understand it

In my particular WP installation, I've create a front-end user profile section, where users can update their bio, their avatar, and so on.

I see that for SP, there is a button "Profile" that, I gather, is for the user to edit his "profile." I see several configuration options at Profiles > Profile Options. To gain guidance on the options, I read this page: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....n/profiles, but it looks to be in need of expansion, and doesn't address my questions.

I "think" that the SP profile is what I want, in that, if I understand correctly, it presents the user with a number of forum options in tab and menu displays exemplified by the configuration possibilities at Profiles > Profile Tabs & Menus. In other words, I do not want to simply configure the Profile button to point to my existing front-end profile section, as it is not forum-specific.

Given all this, here is my issue:

At Profiles > Profile Options I have checked "Forum profile form" as the option, thinking that it would enable SP's built-in profile page. The Profile button links to http://[mydomain]/forum/profile but it does not bring up the page (there is, I note, no WP page at /forum/profile, for what that's worth). I was thinking that maybe I needed to set up a page at /forum/profile and drop in a short code or something, but I don't see any reference to that in the documentation or elsewhere.

Not sure where I am going wrong.

It occurred to me to click the "Profile" button on this support forum. It works as expected by bringing up a feature-rich SP-specific profile page. On mine, it doesn't. That is what I can use help on in resolving.

I've tried deactivating all other plugs, to test for a plugin conflict. Issue persists.

Okay, I've resolved it. I guess when I changed the page default of "forum" to "forums," as well as the permalink to the page, SP was trying to invoke http://charitychannelpress.com.....um/profile whereas I guess it should have been http://charitychannelpress.com.....ms/profile. Changing the page name back solved this issue.

I'll loop back and read the codex on changing the page name for SP. I'm sure that I introduced this issue needlessly, out of ignorance.

Page name doesn't matter. It is the page slug that is important and you can use whatever you like, Just update the forum permalinks (integration > page and permalink panel) after any slug change.

Yes, that's what I understood. However, it's not working as it should (I guess).

Here are my steps:

I changed the SP page slug to "forums" (from "forum").

Next, I know I need to update SP at Integration > Page and Permalink. The page allows me to configure the forum page to be used to display the forum, which now selects "forums." So far, so good.

Next, still at Integration > Page and Permalink, under "Update Forum Permalink," it points to "http://[myURL]/forum" which I gather should instead be "http://[myURL]/forums" -- but there is no apparent way to update that to "http://[myURL]/forums" other than the "Update Forum Permalink" button, which I push. When it resolves, it still shows "http://[myURL]/forum" rather than "http://[myURL]/forums" and, moreover, when clicking the forum "Profile" button, the button no longer works.

The Codex article on this, at http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/administration/simplepress-tools/integration, doesn't shed any light.

So I guess I'm doing something wrong, but what?

Er.... after you change the page/slug in the very top section - update the whole panel with the update button at the bottom and THEN update the permalink... Try that.

Tried that--no difference.

Anyway, for now, I'm just going to leave the page slug as "forum" and not worry about it. If there is a fix for this, though, I'd be pleased to receive it.

nothing known to fix at the moment...  this is a singular report...  assuming, of course, you are running latest 5.3.4 simple press...   couple oddities in slug changing were fixed in 5.3.3...

can you confirm latest version?
