Hi,
when administrating my simple:press 5, can't find "Editor" and "Editor Toolbar" lines in the "Components" menu.
Also, when editing a post, I just have access to a "plain text" editor, without any toolbar ...
In the "Global Settings" "Options" "Post Editing", the "Select default editor" can only be "Plain Text".
What's wrong with my simple press ? Is there any solution to recover the ability to administrate properly my editor ? And of course to recover a correct toolbox when editing ?
Thanks for your help.
Stéphane
Ok thank you ...
although ... if i may ...
As i can see, changes from sp 4.x to sp.5 are deeply impacting the former methods of how to exploit sp.
As far as I explore the new way of managing attachements in post, I notice that many of the former existing functionalities
- changed (e. the way some functionalities became new plugins ...),
- or sometimes, disapeared (e. possibility to manage attachements via tinymce media/image buttons ; possibility to manage uploaded files and make them available to several post ; possibility to add new attachement when re-editing a post ... ),
I can not contest that may be the sp code has been "enhanced", but in terms of exploitation and productivity for the user i am, it is really a regression : all former habits, experiences and "users skills", gained through a long and hard training, look like obsolete 🙁
I'm getting afraid of the new coming releases as far as my personal and professional development is not to become a simple press expert.
I'm really sorry for that comment, as it is obvious you are experts, capable and efficients. But after a long day of a tough work to understand that the way we used this forum doesn't exist any more ... is hard for me.
Sorry again
Stéphane
former methods, yes... but you have vastly more control over how things are done now... users were very, very limited in what they could do with the forum previously... you were limited to skins and mostly fixed layout with the exception of a few options to display or not display elements... now you have complete control over the layout, look and appearance of your forum... definitely will take getting used to but much easier to customize now...
plugins allow you to only grab what you need... many users dont use the features of plugins so why have them in core... core was getting so bloated and memory hungry for users not using many of the features.. now you choose what you want on your site and only need resources for what you choose...

thank you for your answer and your clear explanations.
In my case, my main concern is the loss of that sp functionality which allowed you to
upload/store documents on your server,
at the location you chosen (into a sub-folder you were also able to create/manage),
using the previous store-location tab in the windows called by the buttons "picture", "media" or "link" within tinymce editor.
(sorry for that too long sentence)
That file stored on my server, its url was then available to be reused in other posts/topics, by choosing it in a specific tab of the same windows.
Now, this can be done only using a FTP tool, and by noting its url, which is really a loss of productivity of sp.
How to recover that "file/url manager" in sp ? Within a soon coming release or not ? If i may, consider it as a user need expression
Regards
Stéphane
I take your point 100%.
The decision to change this was prompted by two factors. Firstly the old File Manager was almost universally hated. I am not sure we ever received any complimentary comments on it during it's existence! Users found it cumbersome, difficult and hard to understand. The second factor was that the model was also a small but real security risk. Hence the decision to rip this out and start again - concentrating on what the vast majority wanted - which was simple and painless uploading.
Now I tend to agree with you that we perhaps swung too far the other way and there is a need for the 'browser' part without the complications of the uploading part. The best I can say at the moment is that it is on the cards and not forgotten and at some point as soon as we can we will get something working.

yeah, we already have a ticket to consider a file manager for the minority that does want it... but you definitely dont want that old one with its security holes (it was a 3rd party app)...

Thank you for the informations and above all, for your decision to take into consideration that need.
May be it is a minor one but in terms of functionnality scope, that kind of detail can also make the difference with other products.
And of course, if you don't develop it, you will only gather customers/users who don't need that func : thus, others always remaining minor or using other products than sp ...
But i do agree with the backbone (the spirit ?) of your product : clean, sane (secure?) and easy to use (basic ?).
I'm waiting impatiently for this files/attachements manager and thank you for your support.

Stéphane
