Thanks to your help I now have access to the forum for all members so the crisis is over.

I installed a sidebar login plugin as you suggested and it works fine as long as someone clicks on the forum button in the navigation.

If they know to put in the full url http://www.unstoppablebrand.com/forum/ they get to the first page of the forum where the member names and status info is displayed. I tried doing a redirect from /forum/ to the login widget page, but it didn't work. I end up bypassing the forum itself and just getting the logout sidebar. Is this just because it tried to get to the forum but gets redirected to the login again?

Is there a way to stop people who know or can guess the forum url from bypassing my page iwth the sidebar widget? Or is this just the way it is? I realize this may be a plugin issue, but I thought I would try to see if you have a solution.

thanks

I am not sure I understand...  of course, if someone knows the url of the forum, they can go directly to it...

but if you dont want folks till see it until logged in, why not make guests (non logged in folks) have no access t the forum?  then they wont have access to see the  forum...  you can also hide the footer stats stuff if they are not logged in with a simple logged in check..

is that what you are asking?

Hello Mr Papa--

At the request of some forum members I was trying to figure out a way to redirect people who knew, or could guess, that the address was site.com/forum/ However, I have the forum working again (thanks to your input) and have installed the sidebar plugin . . . so I will see if this satisfies everyone. I don't won't to get into another tech boondoggle . . . I have a class to teach! If there are complaints, I will come up with a clear explanation of what I want to do to and post it here see if it is possible or worth the effort!

thanks
