Email received for each topic in the forum: how do I stop them?

Hello,

Currently I receive an email for each post in the forum, new or reply… my profile has not subscribed to any topic so I must have set this somewhere else but I cannot find it! Please help: I am drowning in emails as my forum is coming more lively in the last few days! 😀

forum admin > Admins > Your Admin Options. You probably have notifications turned on.

No Andy, I already checked that, the checkbox has not tick in it 🙁

They are the only places. Do you have a second account that might be the culprit?

that was a good idea as I used to have more than one but unfortunately now it’s not the case anymore… I have only 1 user…

I just received another email from which I deduce the system thinks I am subscribed, but I am not. Neither I chose to be automatically subscribed. This is weird, by now I looked everywhere…

Having said that finally my provider has released WP 4.7.1, so later or tomorrow I will also be able to update Simple Press. Should I first do that and then see if something changes with these emails?

Did you also verify that you are not subscribed to any forums?  they are different than subscribing to a topic…  you can also see in your profile..

Thanks Mr Papa, I just checked and somehow from the Profile I don’t get the button for the Forum Subscriptions (I confronted my forum with yours to understand what you were talking about) I only have 2 entries: Subscription Options and Topic Subscriptions…

I am going to see in the WP Forum admin why this is happening, I must have ticked something I guess… and I am going to check each forum too. Will let you know the outcome!

Edit: in the Forum admin, Users, I cannot see my user name subscribed to anything. This is crazy, there must be an explanation…

I can’t think of any other point where this might be coming from. So let’s ensure the data is not jumbled or anything.

Go to the forum admin > toolbox > housekeeping – and run the task to ‘Reset Users Plugin Data’.
Go to the forum admin > admins > your admin options – I know the email notifications are turned off but turn them on – update the panel – turn them off – update the panel. That will ensure the options record is refreshed.

Wait and see what happens!

Done! Now I send a new post and see if when people reply I get the email. Thanks, I will let you know 😉

I am going to cry soon… I did what you suggested, then I went into a post for which I have been receving email notifications. I wrote a reply asking my forum people to reply to it. Then I receive an email that there’s a new post in the forum for me… mine! I scanned all the forum users and I do not have any other, although I did in the past. Could the problem be there? Maybe the system somehow remembers a deleted user? I don’t know anymore what to think…

If you are getting emails about posts you have made yourself then it does sound like a second account that is still active.

So – you say you did have a second user account – how did you delete it? Did you do it through the WordPress admin – Users?

Do you have easy access to your database? If so it might be worth looking in the ‘sfmembers’ table to see if there is a widowed row for the second user account. If there is – don’t delete it yet…

Andy,

I used to have more users yes and no, I don’t remember how I deleted them, if from the WP User list or from the Forum User list, for sure if I did the latter I would have checked the first too to make sure the user was gone from WP too.

I went from the admin panel of the blog to phpMyAdmin but I only see the WP tables, users included, and there are only the current users. I cannot find sfmembers. I can access the files of the blog though, through Filezilla… any use? Sorry but I am not too prepared about the database behind the blog…

Having said that, is there any way to rebuild the forum somehow?

I should have said that the ‘sfmembers’ table is prefixed with your WordPress table prefix. So if you used the default it would be ‘wp_sfmembers’.

No – there are no rebuild options in either Simple:Press or WordPress.

The second, widowed user record is all I can think of. If you DO find one then for now we just need the User_ID.

Andy another thing which may be important: the email I receive is from the Forum to another active user in the forum (which I guess subscribed to the post itself), as there was an option to send any subcription email also to me as admin… Am I clear? Or I can make some screenshot to explain better. Sorry I noticed this only now…
