join a forum??? sorry, I cannot say it enough... one does not join a forum... they can get membership in a usergroup... and then YOU can assign a usergroup with a permission set to a forum... that is a key point I have been trying to make...
as detailed in that codex article on memberships, you need a distinct wp role for each wishlist level... otherwise you cannot give automatically give them unique sp usergroup memberships... do you have a distinct wp role for each wishlist level?
so if this users have different wishlist levels, but the same wp role, then they will be in the same sp usergroup and will have the same permissions on all forums... if you want wishlist level1 and wishlist level2 to have different accesses to forums, then they must be in different usergroups... for auto assignment to those usergroups, they must have different wp roles... you can also adjust the users membershipsin sp usergroups manually...
so lets start with some questions and clarification...
do you want level1 and level2 to have the same access to forums? if not, do the wishlist levels get mapped to different wp roles?

but arent user groups:guest, member, moderator and admin? if so, and I want both to have member access, but to see different topics..do I still need two different user groups and then if so, what would I chose them to be? Or do I need members1 usergroup for forum1 and members2 usergroup for forum2...
I have to say it again... users do NOT join forums... users can gain membership in a usergroup...
guests, members, moderators ARE usergroups, but admin is NOT... If you want different usergroups to have different permissions/access on forums, then yes, you would want multiple usergroups... sounds like you are catching on...
so if I understand...
You should have a wishlist level of level_1 and level_2... in the wishlist settings, for the membership levels, you should map them to different wp roles, lets call them subscriber_1 and subscriber_2...
In the SP admin, you should have a members_1 and members_2 usergroup... on forum - options - member settings, you should map the subscriber_1 wp role to the sp usergroup members_1 and map the subscriber_2 wp role to the sp usergroup members_2...
then in the sp admin, for each forum (lets say you have forum_1 and forum_2), marry up the permissions... so assign usergroup members_1 with a permission set (ie standard access) to forum_1... and assign usergroup members_2 with a permission set (ie standard access) to forum_2...
now members who register to wishlist level_1 will have access to forum_1 with standard access... and members who register to wishlist level_2 will have access to forum_2 with standard access... you can of course make the permission set whatever you want...
and if you also want wishlist members_1 to be able to access forum_2, you can add that permission set by editing forum_2 also...
