Error upgrading Data from 5.1.3 to 5.3.1

I upgraded WP to 3.6.1

Then I upgraded simple press to 5.3.1 using the WP update tool

When I click on forum it tells me a Database upgrade is required and this is the error I get when I click Perform Upgrade:

Upgrade Aborted current build: 8972 {"status":"success","type":"upgrade","section":9068,"response":"Build upgrade section 9068 executing. Status: success
","error":""}

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is usually caused by another plugin messing with ajax responses and inserting invalid json into the response..

best way to see is with the browser console open, run the upgrade and see what the html response is... and see if something is corrupting it...
