When attempting to update plugins (or SP itself to version 5.2.3) I get the following error. Here's an example when trying to update the Admin Bar plugin. Any ideas?
An error occurred while updating Admin Bar: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature.
Odd. In your case, what method does the wp updater use (ie ssh, ftp, direct, etc). This is all wp code.
Can you look in your wp uploads dir for current year/month and see if you have an admin-bar.zip file in there?
What browser? Have you tried another?
What is your php upload limit?

Sorry for the delay; working on another bug. Don't know where to get most of this info. Where does one find what updater WP is using? At this point I don't have direct access to directories, since my site is hosted by an admin. I uploaded the SP plugins the standard way, and some of them work -- but none of them can be upgraded. I tried that just now with the Answers Topic plugin (the same version) and then Admin Bar (the new version), and this technique worked.
Which means I can upgrade plugins now -- but that doesn't solve the problem of upgrading SP itself. I don't want to uninstall SP to upgrade it. Any advice?
Thanks -
I am going to let Steve comment on the upgrade itself as I am unsure of those answers but you should never 'uninstall' SP to upgrade an existing forum. You can just ftp the latest files to the WP plugin folder 'simple-press' which will overwrite the existing files and then perform the upgrade from the forum admin menu.

I have no idea why the pclzip error is occurring... its not common to simple press, but havent seen good explanation why it happens to some in wp...
dont uninstall sp to upgrade... you would need to upload via ftp instead...
you didnt answer which browser you use? seems a lot of the wp issues are with IE... and switch to another browser can solve it... not universal, unfortunately...

Have tried IE and Firefox, but still can't upgrade either plugins directly or SP itself. Have been able to upgrade plugins by uninstalling/deleting, then re-installing. Would like to get help on a specific plugin (Answers) which is installed but does not display. Should I start a new topic on that?
have you seen this: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ers-topic/

I've got exactly the same error on my first update attempt.
I am using SSH2 via SSH/FTP update support plugin as my ftp is generally disabled for security reasons. There is no admin-bar.zip in my uploads/year/months.
I am running FF 18 - but the same on Chrome and Opera.
My upload limit is 256M.
I guess, it is the SSH which causes trouble here.
Going to do manual upgrade instead.
Edit: Tried updating themes and plugins the wp updater way but to no avail. They do not exactly fail - they just start and immediately finalize with nothing updated - no message, no input request (i.e. SSH2 password/key file). And strange - updates in WP itself run without any hazzles. Will have to do it manually, as well.

we have seen a couple examples recently where W3 Total Cache was causing issues with upgrades... no clue why they would try to cache the admin but it seems to interfere... any chance you are using that?
