I have gotten an install to run with the option there... the uninstall routine might assume its been removed, I will check and add it if its not there...

Bill, did you by chance try to install with different user??  the install id option is just the user id of the person installing... should be harmless if already there unless its a different user doing the install...  if it was left over from previous version, perhaps this was the issue?

but we can probably clean that up a bit...

If I want to grab any changes you've committed, I have to update my SVN then FTP?  Or can I use Forums->Toolbox?

there is nothing on forum - toolbox related to updating...
yes do an svn update... but are you not running the forum out of where svn is located??? you would only need to ftp if your svn stuff and server are on different machines... best to have svn where your server is...

On SVN, best, but not the way I have it set up now.  I have the SVN on my desktop, not server, so I do an SVN update, then an export to strip the versioning stuff, then FTP the export.

On Toolbox, there IS a check for updates.  Clicking the button says there is nothing there now.  I clicked it yesterday, and it said there was an update, but I didn't grab it per the post at the top of the forum.

On users, no, I was always installing from the same user.  I installed/uninstalled/installed probably 3x in a row, testing different things.  About the 4th time is when I observed the behavior described.  I logged out and in again as the same user with no difference.  Went on to something else until I saw your reply, then deleted that option setting, and it worked, so I don't know if it was deleting the setting or the passage of time that changed things.

that button only checks for updates... it cannot actually apply an update... technically, with the wp updater now in use, that button is obsolete and could be removed...
I guess you question on ftp'ing the files depends on the connection...
If its fast enough (good fiber), I would just ftp up the entire svn checked out project... the version stuff wont hurt anything on your server - we svn right on the server so they are there...
Or, if not fast enough connection, rather than doing an svn checkout, I would just do an svn export all the time... remove the old one, do new svn export, ftp up all the files...
We may turn on a valid update via the wp updater today or tomorrow to allow the users to test... it would help you upgrade much easier... the problem is we cant keep that method up to date fast enough during an alpha...

As further testing, I don't think the redirection/302 error is due to whatever is in postmeta.  I have since tried these things:

- deactivating all plugins except SPF

- deleting all postmeta entries for the forum page after it was edited (which should restore it to when it worked)

- examining the posts table for differences

- all the combinations of multiple view and similar settings

I found nothing that stopped the redirection.  Any suggestions on other things I can check?  Has anyone installed this build of SPF on the main site of a WP multisite install and gotten it to work?

yes, I have sp installed on main site of multisite... and two network sites also...  and its been working...  last checked about two days ago...  its currently in virgin state from playing with all the install and upgrade stuff...  but can rebuild it soon to actually have groups and forums again...

we also have at least 1 other alpha tester (Lee H) using it on multsite main site...

network site forums working fine too including with subforums...

for grins, can you temp revert to the wp default theme and see if that does anything...  we do have quite a few number of users that use the Genesis theme so dont think anything there but just a check...

any special set up or plugins on multisite?  I can only test network sites in subdirectories, but shouldnt matter..
